Enhanced search

OLA's website houses thousands of articles and pages containing MPP information, bills, house documents, and more. I worked with the metadata services and development team to design new functions such as filters and categories to aid in a user's search. As a result, users are able to search for more relevant items at a faster rate.

New online submission options

Ontario citizens can have their say on specific issues by presenting written material or appearing in front of committees (a small group of MPPs) at public hearings. The high volume of requests sent in a short amount of time via traditional methods (e.g. phone and letter) proved to be a challenge to manage. We developed a new feature that allowed the public to submit applications through the website that would be connected to a filtered database in the back end. This method allowed our staff to be more organized and manage requests more efficiently, while also giving the public another easy method to submit applications. My role involved designing user flows, working with complex scenarios of specific bills, creating and conducting user tests to ensure the form can be found quickly and completed easily.

In memoriam

Based on feedback from our audience and stakeholders, the Assembly created a new section remembering those who served in Ontario's legislature. My role involved gathering the archive and preparing the assets, developing mock ups for landing and sub landing pages that contained the optimal amount of information, and designing an experience that would communicate a non-partisan approach while still honouring those that were part of the legislature.

Patterns and design system

A pattern library was maintained and referred to by Assembly web staff to ensure the design and content were consistent across all areas of the website. The Assembly has set branding guidelines for the coat of arms and color palette which are reflected in the web design as well. We worked with stakeholders and conducted user tests to further develop a design system that worked well for our target audience.
